Colleagues,
As we prepare and plan for summer please keep this information in mind:
According to the current BOT-UFF Collective Bargaining Agreement: If
faculty are offered summer appointments, they must be offered equitably
to all qualified faculty. In addition, our FIU bargaining agreement
mandates that the first summer course must pay 12.5% of the nine-month
salary, the second course 11%, and the third course no less than $5,775.
In some units, such as Arts and Sciences, faculty are being told that they
will
get no more than one classroom course this summer, in Summer A, but that
they may be offered an online course as their second course. In a case
like that, the classroom course would be paid 12.5% of the nine-month
salary and the online course 11%. If a faculty member exceeds 1.0 FTE,
additional online courses would be compensated by the formula that FIU
Online has been following for several years: $3,000 for the first 35
students plus $90 for each additional student.
I hope this helps to clarify the current situation. If you have any
questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours,
Leslie
